Final Post

This was a really great class and I had lots of fun creating some of the projects, my favourite so far has been PowToons. It is such a great resource and can be used in so many ways within the classroom.

I am not the greatest at technology, but I do like discovering new ways of using it to my advantage. First day of class we had to figure out which image described how we felt about technology, although I cannot remember which image I chose, I do remember an image I can relate to now. It was a person jumping off the cliff because, although technology can be a scary endeavour, I have found it to be quiet exciting as well and I am happy to take that leap!!!

Genius Hour Reflection #4: Final Thoughts

Although this was quite a tedious project, it was a rewarding feeling when it turned out similar to the way I imagined it!!
213 nails and lots of red string later I ended up with this!

Genius Hour Reflection #3: Selecting my Image

Today I was on Pinterest to look at all the different nail and string art to get inspired. Here is a screenshot of some of the pins related to "nail string art":

I then went on google to find images of flowers. I printed three copies of the same flower, cut and placed them on my prepared wood surface to then begin the process of hammering in the nails.

Genuis Hour Reflection #2: Preparing the Surface

Today I decided to prepare my surface before I begin to hammer the nails into the wood. Below I have some images of the process of prepping my surface before spray painting it black.

Step 1: Fill in the letters

I used a black permanent marker to colour in all the white letters and red heart so I use the least amount of black spray paint. I purchased this wood art at Winners on clearance for $2.00.

Step 2: Prepare to Spray paint

Here you can still see the writing even with the letters coloured in. I put newspaper underneath to keep the floor clean!

Step 3: Let it Dry

Here is the wood surface after 1.5 coats of black spray paint. Now it is time to let the painted surface dry. It dries to the touch in an hour, but for best results, overnight is ideal.

Genius Hour Reflection #1: Successful Shopping Trip!

Today I made a list of all the items I will be needing in order to create my wall art. I found out that I already had most of the items needed to complete the project except for the nails and string. I had to make a trip to Home Depot to purchase a box of nails which costed me $3.24 for a 2 oz. box. I also made a quick stop at the dollar store to purchase the string or yarn for $1.50 and red was the only colour that seemed to appeal to me. This was one successful shopping trip!!!
